Fairies in the Night and a Fairy for YOU!
Dear Friends of Bluebird Fairies,
Fairies shelter behind the disco ball
hung in the portal to the kingdom of odd.
After sunset, they emerge lickety-split,
and all night they dance through the city,
their magenta wings flashing splendid
in the lights of streets, and traffic and stars.
This poem was written by my friend Mary Pratt. Today, it inspired the drawing of this fairy:
Yesterday, I was interviewed about my work with Bluebird Fairies. One of the questions was “How has my life changed as a result of creating this business 9 years ago?” I enjoyed allowing the answer to flow into my mind. First, I thought of all of the people who have come into my life through my fairies; like Mary and her wonderful poems!
And then I moved deeper to a place where I know that this drawing practice I’ve created that helps me process the dark things I experience by drawing demons and their antidotes and the fairy drawings that celebrates the paths that lead me to more light and positivity, has changed my whole way of being in the world
So, thank you all for being a part of this ongoing journey.
I hope you can move forward in your days finding what supports you in being you as you step into areas of newness that allow you to shift into even greater possibilities.
Have fun!
With much love,
Emily and the Bluebird Fairies

Gentle Water Rabbit
Hello Friends of Bluebird Fairies,
We hope this greeting finds you well.
Our annual acknowledgement of the beginning of the Lunar New Year begins with this fairy:
The We’Moon 2023 datebook says ‘Rabbit year can be a time of peace, calm and healing after the dynamic Tiger year…during Rabbit year, enjoy living an artistic life in the beauty you create and share with others."‘
Ah, I love it. I could feel the shift in me as I drew this rabbit and whenever, I feel a little stress, I look upon this image and I shift back to ease.
I hope you can feel it as well. Have fun!
Love, Emily and the Fairies
P.S. In Vietnam they celebrate the year of the cat which Kelly Kaeding of the Vermont Center for Acupuncture and Wellness writes about in a beautiful and inspiring blog. Here it is.
A Cat Fairy may still be coming and/or a reprise of my long awaited paper mache cats.
Connecting to Our Pink Universes
Hello Friends of Bluebird Fairies,
Happy New Year!
“The month of January is for getting over the holidays.'“ said my friend Julia many years ago when we were in our early twenties traveling with the Bread and Puppet Theater. I think about her statement every year when we get here and it makes me laugh.
Now, it’s less about the stress of the holidays, though the capitalistic hold on them can be stressful, but more as an awareness that here in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s winter. It’s an invitation to be quiet, rest more and feel more inward.
Last Summer, I was reunited with Julia and we worked on a dance piece with our longtime creative friend, Alexis Smith, created by Bread and Puppet’s Peter Schumann. In it, there’s a Pink Universe and when creating a ‘thank you’ card for Julia, I made this fairy:
So, here we are, Julia, in January, and I have been thinking so much of this Pink Universe Fairy and what message she brings to us.
Last Friday, by the end of the day, I was feeling flat. My emotional landscape had been used up like a balloon losing air and was flapping about in the wind. I always want to feel bright about my future, but that vision, I just couldn't find.
Luckily, I took my sad self into a room, sat down with a pen and paper and with my non-dominant hand drawing technique, I connected with what was left of myself. And, through this, I got the message:
The pink universe lives in all of us, all of the time. It’s where we keep connected to our selves, so when we start to get flat by giving too much, we’re reminded to shift into lower stress activities that we know fill us back up.
So, I hope you connect into your personal Pink Universe as much as you can, and have a wonderful January.
All the best,
Love,
Emily and the Bluebird Fairies
p.s. Our capitalistic note of gratitude- Thank you Seven Days for popping us into the Holidays by including us in the Gift Guide. We had a great time selling our decks on-line, at Thirty-odd on Pine Street and at the Waldorf Holiday Fairy in Shelburne. Thank you all who took part in these opportunities.
This trend is continuing. We have more decks in our online stone and we’re continuing to be at Thirty-odd. Buy a deck for a dear friend today to assist them with their Pink Universe style of life.
Adelante!!!
Hello Friends of Bluebird Fairies,
I hope this finds you enjoying this time that celebrates gratitude. I’m thankful for you and how these fairies bring us together.
Here’s a fairy for today:
This fairy makes me smile! Isn’t it easy to feel things are slipping backwards? This fairy shifts it all into a different, more positive place.
Life moves in cycles and many of the fairies can find relatives in the Bluebird Fairy Deck. Today as I look at the ‘Fairy of Adelante!’, I’m thinking of “The Fairy of Smiling and Being Okay” who has a speech bubble with one word, ‘Forward.’
That’s where Bluebird Fairies is moving these days as our decks are featured in the Seven Days’ Holiday Guide (see below) along with many great Vermont gifts.
We’ll be at the Holiday Fair at the Lake Champlain Waldorf School in Shelburne, Dec 2-3. Find us there on Friday, 6-9, and on Saturday,10-2. We’d love to see you there and have you pick your ‘Fairy of the Day!’
New! Our Fairy Decks can be found at Thirty-odd, the marvelous gift shop on Pine Street.
So, you see, we’re excited about moving forward into this season. This is, however, just a fraction of the beauty of Bluebird. I’ll be in touch closer to the Solstice with more magic from the energies around us.
Be well as you move gently forward.
Love,
Emily and the Bluebird Fairies
